Mr. Andre Deponti Afonso, Deputy Director of Safe Abortion Action Fund (SAAF) visited from 13 – 18 November 2022, the project activities of “Enhancing the access to quality abortion for tea workers, ethnic minority and hard-to-reach population of North-eastern Region (Sylhet division) of Bangladesh” project funded by the SAAF. The major objective/s of his visit was to visit some of the health centers and talk to staff and service providers, to gain an understanding of how service provision happens, to witness some sessions with the communities (courtyards/school sessions and also sensitization meetings), and to meet with the project office team, debrief, and discuss any program or financial management issues.

During this visit, Mr. Andre visited all 05 centers of Sylhet division i.e. Sylhet BWHC urban center and BWHC Zokigonj center, BWHC Sunamgonj center, BWHC Moulvibazar center, and BWHC Hobigonj center. He met with the beneficiaries, community people, service providers, researchers & academia of SUST, and observed courtyard meetings with women, men, and in-laws, and also school sessions.

He has a meeting also with the Finance Team and finally, debriefed the board members (Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, and Treasurer) about his findings and suggestions at head office. He left Dhaka on 19 November 2022. 

Sharif Mostafa Helal, the Executive Director of BWHC along with the SAAF Project Coordinator accompanied the SAAF representative on the mission to Bangladesh.
